If you want to specifically use the 433Mhz receivers used in this post, then am afraid it can only be used with Arduino boards.

Of course there's somebody out there that might be able to hack the receivers and use it without Arduino board, but I suspect the efforts will be much more than just using the off the shelf Arduino boards.
